Speaking My Name

Why is it that I should not speak my own name, and why should I labor outside my own gain,or toil and toil in search of your fame?

You tell me to collar ambition and tamethe lion within me and cut off its mane. Why is it that I should not speak my own name?

And why is it me who must make myself lamewhen you could give freely your own sweat and pain,or toil and toil in search of your fame?

When a boar on a spit roasts over your flameand they ask by whose spear this great beast was slain, why is it that I should not speak my own name?

So if I go forth and stake out my own claim, will you call out a cruel and tired refrain,or toil and toil in search of your fame?

So when you have lost everything but your shame, they'll ask for an heir to take your land and grain. Why is it that I should not speak my own name,or toil and toil in search of your fame?
