A Brae

When, as I walked, I went along two pathswhich were entwined, then fell to different ways,I saw the left sent walkers up slim laths, while laid aneath the other was soft hay.

I thought I might just march along the braethat stood between them both and kept them split, fain of the plan to keep my calm and staythe anguish of asseying which would fit.

But at the top I saw a place to sit,and on it was a man as still as stone,so I resolved to rid my soul of smitby falling left and leaving right alone.

'Thought, as I hurried past his empty eye“Oh, there but for the grace of God go I.”
